Tomorrow, I begin my first day as an undergrad junior! Just Spanish and my Victorian English class, but English upper div after a whole summer of studio design classes! And lvl 3 Spanish after a whole summer of wholly English language!

*panics*

1. Starting the telemarketing job at the Annual Fund Oct 6, by which I need my SSN card. Which is at home, a 2.5 hour drive away. Parents gave me much grief for not thinking I might need it.

2. Cell phone not working due to old SIM being deactivated and new one not to be activated until Mom gets out of work and take a nap tomorrow.

3. Have to look for internship and choose English or Design, though I am totally leaning towards the latter.

4. Crossing fingers in hopes of getting into 2-unit freshmen seminar in which I will be reading and writing contemporary short stories. Waitlisted as #2 out of 15 capacity with one opening. Hopefully, a freshman will think the work too much and drop!

5. Should I go to my friend's birthday celeb this weekend? She and her boyfriend will be going with a whole bunch of other engineering friends. Essentially, I'll be in a group of people in which I only know two. But it's her 21st. Argh.

Current song obsession: Leona Lewis's Misses Glass and I CANNOT find a free download of it ANYWHERE. I swear, I go to sleep hearing it in my head. XD

After a weekend stuffed with good food, trips to the city, and many hours on the Wii, I just logged onto the campus job site and applied for two jobs.

One's a computer lab supervisor/print technician job that might be good for my vis comm major. The other pays a quarter more with commission bonuses, but I'll be a telemarketer on behalf of the campus Annual Fund. I'm wondering if I can't juggle both...

Wish me luck!

BTW: This song is my current obsession and finally downloaded after an hour or so of fervent searching.

:( Day started off nasty with a visit to the dentist to replace my fillings. Half my mouth was numb, making my speech slurred and forcing me to fast until 3 in the afternoon.

:) Then I got to eat the chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake I had gotten yesterday. Sweet Heaven!

:( Forgot to water the lawn. Had to put on my coat and do so at midnight. Brrrr!

:) Made plans to see two friends I haven't seen in about a year almost! Including watching The Dark Knight and/or Ironman on Friday if either or both are still in theaters.

:( Tried logging onto the university website to check whether my final grades were up or not and discovered that my username and password DID NOT WORK! *runs around like a headless chicken*

:) Decided upon my new phone--Sony Ericsson w580i, either urban gray or black.

:( Updated to Mozilla ver 3 and lost my delicious add-on.

:) Found out one of my requests (guardian angel!Draco) at [livejournal.com profile] slashfest actually got claimed!

I have a new title.

DES 13 is owning me so badly right now. I've shot 7 rolls of 36-count film so far and only one of them had anything worth using. It didn't help that my themes for the final project were considered too weak by the professor. I'm at my wit's end and can only hope that my latest idea, where I get someone to stand in front of a plain wall and draw something to interact with them on said wall, might go over well with Prof. Molloy.

Still have that pop-up book to work on tonight, but [livejournal.com profile] snahjerblah went to Costco with her boyfriend and will be keeping an eye out for my favorite chocolate: those chocolate ball you crack into sections, like a deliciously solid orange.

On other news, my phone, or my phone's battery is dying at long last. I charged it last night, so made a two minute call an hour ago, after which it promptly died. That's only the battery, right? If I change that, the rest of the phone should continue to function as usual, right?

So much love for my roommate, who thoughtfully made enough spaghetti for her and her boyfriend to have leftovers for when I came home half an hour ago. I forgot that the city buses don't have a 10 or 11 line on the weekends, so she even borrowed her boyfriend's car to pick me up! T_T <---tears of happiness, since I was carrying a full portfolio, a camera bag, and my backpack at the time.

As to why I only returned home an hour or so ago (11 pm)... I managed to shoot four rolls yesterday and today. Successfully wound two onto a reel and made them light-safe. Discovered the second tank was cracked and went to get a new one. In my absence, a classmate had opened the light-safe tank with my two rolls and quite effectively rendered them completely useless, as the white light was on at the time. T_T <---tears of sadness, because I took them on two pretty hot and sweaty days. She paid for the film and an extra five dollars and the shots weren't completely impossible to replicate, so I didn't really undergo the shame of breaking into tears in the busy darkroom. XD

I have some good ideas for my DES 15 pop-up book project though!

Today was NOT a fun day. Due to project deadlines and nerves left over from the hectic-ness of the entire week, I ended up getting two hours of sleep last night, if even that.

I dragged myself out of bed early to continue working on aforementioned projects and somehow, my sleep-deprived brain thought that the 7:40 bus that I usually took would arrive at 7:50. Needless to say, I was half an hour late to photo and missed the beginning of a critique. Not so late that I actually missed anything else or that I couldn't put up my own prints, but late enough to make my usually punctual self cringe.

This has been the first week I succumbed to buying over-priced coffee at the Silo for the fact that it contains caffeine. I spent the rest of the day suffering nausea, an inconsistent headache, and slightly unbalanced. I vow to get my full ten hours tonight. I was doing so poorly today that not only did I misremember the schedule of a bus I've been taking pretty much the entire summer, I couldn't do basic arithmetic, took a whole HOUR AND A HALF to measure out a mat and then wasted all that by cutting RIGHT THROUGH THOSE LINES. I swear I was nearly going to cry at that point. That makes twice in one week I've wanted to just drop everything, crawl into bed and have a good cry. Previously being when I ended up crossing campus twice just to print three color copies of a document for that group project. And in the morning, I completely forgot to sign the "Thank you" card Professor Molloy had gotten for us to send to the sacbee. *cringes in absolute shame*

On the up-side however, the euphoria from my almost perfect grade has not faded! There was another group presentation today, but when I asked the professor what she thought after everyone else had left, she said our's was still the best. >.< This was during the hour-long conversation I had with Professor Wood, centered almost entirely on design and college. It was INCREDIBLE. This is the first time I've felt so comfortable around another professor to babble so much. I learned loads from her and it was very, very cool. I usually can't get over my awe of my professors to talk to them so freely.

Continuation of the downside? TWO HUGE FINAL PROJECTS DUE FRIDAY NEXT WEEK. *runs around like headless chicken* It's a COMPLETELY HANDMADE POP-UP BOOK and FOUR SILVER PRINTS.

Than again, in the typical see-saw of moods today has put me through, I have happily submitted three prompts to [livejournal.com profile] slashfest! I only hope I don't scare authors away with the extensiveness of them. I got in the Harry Potter characters in James Bond 'verse prompt I was a minute too late to submit in the last fest and two more.

Well, except for when I had to run around campus in ballet flats a size too small. In the summer heat. Lugging my laptop in its heavy case.

The presentation I was agonizing over? 99/100, baby. Booyah! At this point, I don't care what the rest of my group got--I got a near perfect score and that's all I care.

The room was perfect for our needs, despite the longer walk from our original classroom. Turned out all the others' laptops couldn't load the end powerpoint, so there was more running around as I was in the computer lab finishing up the pamphlet (that girl FINALLY showed up to enter her blurb) and running around trying to find a color printer in a lab without a class and then cutting them to fit.

And before all this stress, my morning photo class carpooled to Sacramento for a brief tour of the Sacramento Bee by the very impressive Florence Low. She was really easy to talk to--to the the extent that I wasn't afraid to ask her to take a look at my contact sheets for the next project. She said she likes taking pictures of food, so when she approved of my strawberry hulls shot, I was pretty happy. Unfortunately, Professor Molloy felt differently.

Later on, after the walk through of the newsroom, which was a lot smaller than I'd expected of the largest newspaper in the state capital, Florence took us to the basement studio and Sac Bee's Bryan Patrick gave us a slid show of 125 examples of his works and an interesting Q & A session. He was very personable, wearing a many-pocketed vest, jeans, and a casual blue polo. There was even music (most notably The Long Goodnight's "Pictures of You") to go along with the extremely impressive photographs!

At the end, the two photographers were patient enough to stand for a couple of shots for a few of my classmates and I. Mr. Patrick mugged shamelessly, though initially, it appeared he avoided facing the camera (though that could be due to the fact that I was taking many, many, stalker-like snapshots). He even dropped into a spread-legged, kung-fu-esque pose that I was too slow to catch. Then I even managed get a photo with them! Than again, the lighting wasn't that great and I was grinning like a loon, so I don't think that photo will be something for me to be too proud of.

Today ended up to be a very full and busy day. I just discovered that next week will be the last week of the session and I have still yet to start on either of the HUGE TWO FINAL projects that are due by next Friday.

I think I'll save my panic for tomorrow though. I've used up my daily quota from the numerous obstacles that I encountered throughout the preparation for that presentation.
animeartistjo: (DIE!)
So the powerpoint for that presentation was given to another girl's responsibility. I woke up early for some more pamphlet-work to find three e-mails from her reading, "I have been trying to send you this for the past hour. My laptop is crashing every 15 minutes. And the internet in my apartment has been canceled this month. My roommates just told me. I'm using my apartment's internet connection, but it's not that great. This is the farthest I could get to, before my lap top dies again." There is no attachment.

The most recent one is blank. I had no phone call to inform me of this so I couldn't even throw together a rough place-holder just in case. I can only hope she somehow managed to save a copy on a CD, her USB, or used the common sense God gave her and take that cursed laptop to the IT help center as soon as it opens later this morning.

On the bright side, I've tried some of the Sun Tropic Orange and Mango juice this fiiiinnnneeee morning and it's wonderful.

I've also been tagged by [livejournal.com profile] avalon13 with a meme eerily similar to one [livejournal.com profile] snahjerblah tagged me with last week.

I have a group presentation due tomorrow for DES 15. My group consists of two former freshmen and a junior transfer/international student. My part was to design the accompanying pamphlet, which was kind of difficult when I don't have all the text I need. One of the freshmen girls was slotted for the powerpoint--the rest of us sent her all our research.

On friday, she warned us that she would be out of commission for the weekend due to moving issues. That was fine, it being Labor Day weekend and all; I assumed she would work on it Monday. I call her Monday for the text (bibliography and her personal blurb) and she said she would e-mail it to me that night.

It's currently Tuesday afternoon and I haven't her blurb and when I called her about the powerpoint, the one she told me she had started Friday, she told me all her had were pictures and the title. Fine, she had many problems with moving to the point that she was currently staying in a hotel, but that does not mean she could shirk her part of the project. How long would it have taken her to have called me to let me know that she wouldn't be able to carry out her part?

The presentation is tomorrow and I don't want us to read off the powerpoint like the previous two groups. I also don't want us to go in there without the information memorized. On top of the group project, I have four smaller ones for the same class (20 pts each as opposed to the 100 point group one) and a report and exercise for my photo class all due Friday.

Argh! People!

To add to this furor, my phone's dying. I had charged it fully last night, made about a half hour's worth of calls dealing with the project problem, and now it has to be charged again. My mother had this phone since 2004 before passing it on to me, so it's pretty worn. The back also has become loose enough to have a tendency to pop off if I'm not careful.

Thank all I'll be going home at the end of this summer session. I need it.

It's 11:40 pm and I just got home from school. I had caught the 1:25 bus to campus. I have not had anything to eat the entire time.

I have never stayed so long on campus yet and the entire time, I was working to 1.)finish and mount my past-and-present, black-and-white guache painting (1:45-4:30), 2.)develop two good silver prints (4:30-9:15), and 3.)window-mat the latter (9:15-11:10). I could have just taken the easy way out and Letratac-ed them, but the perfectionist in me demanded the more professional look.

So now I will eat a late (!) dinner and then brainstorm ideas/work on thumbnails for my next DES 15 project, due Friday.
animeartistjo: (DIE!)
I spent Friday after classes and Saturday comatose in bed and would have done the same Sunday given a choice. Unfortunately, I had assignments due the next day and wearily dragged my sore, dizzy, voice-less, coughing body out of bed, onto the 1:06 city bus to the campus. Spent four hours photocopying old magazines and then trudged home. Where I promptly collapsed into bed and didn't get up again until my morning bus the next morning.

Class was all right in the morning, but I DID do that assignment sick to near heaven, so I can't remember how well a job I did on it. Unfortunately, it appears that even the mild weather this morning was too much and I think I've caught a cold on top of the lingering aftereffects of the sore throat. Had another typical liquid meal (something to drink) for lunch, and then napped in the room for my next class until the professor showed up. Demonstrated my diligence, explained my already late project would be yet another day late in my horribly cracking, scratchy voice, and then skedaddled for the next bus. Went home. Collapsed into bed. You're starting to spot a pattern, yes?

Woke up to do project, eat my first SOLID meal in three days, and discover that the illustrious [livejournal.com profile] tygati's postcards had arrived! And she'd sent TWO! Was that intentional, or a stroke of pure luck on my part? It was the Ruari and Kian one I'd requested (the hair! the gorgeous hair and his eyes!) and a bonus Beldon one. \o/ Made my day just THAT much better and once these crazy projects stop piling up on me, I can return the favor.

Purpose of all this self-piteous post? My roommate, [livejournal.com profile] snahjerblah, offered to make me congee and had actually gone into the trouble of googling some recipes! *is loved*

Now, before all else, to reread Ruari and Kian's tale. <3

Developing film is so cool.

Carrying around a camera bag, my portfolio carrier, and lunch at the same time is NOT.

On the other hand, my 100 pack film paper arrived! *cuddles* Now I can start on my first project in ernest!

Though I still have DES 15's stupid collage and guache versions of the same interior to do. T_T

It's heaven and hell. ON THE SAME DAY. *dies*

On a non-school related note, I'm currently listening to awesome Spanish pop at batanga.com. Candy for my ears! XD

Went to my DES 13 and 15 classes today--8 to 5 with an hour break at noon.

The material costs! The hours of labor to be had! The levels I must aspire to! The agony! The AGONY!!!

My parents and sister are coming up on the twelfth so [livejournal.com profile] darkestnight12 could celebrate her b-day with cheap sushi (ARGH! I turn 20 in a month! And have yet to do something with my life! Argh!) and I'm just glad because then I can beg more cash off of them for those MATERIAL LEECHES!!!

Can you tell I'm sort of freaking out? ^^;; (I actually used multiple exclamation marks and ALL CAPS.)
animeartistjo: (kirara blinking)
I signed up for Photo a week ago, after checking major requirements in the gen catalog against what the adviser told me (the latter was wrongwrongwrong) and have been hyperventilating about costs and materials ever since I found I would be using about $60's worth of photopaper, $100 in rolls of film and would need a 35mm manual slr camera (whatever that means) and a digital one as well. Know how much the manual costs? $220. Know where the digital one I have is at? At home, a full 2.5 hour's drive or 3 hour train ride, one way away from where I currently am.

Called my sister. Thankfully, her birthday is coming soon and sushi's cheap in my college town. She loves sushi, so I can get that camera!

My friend Nong from Art 2 was taking Photo at the same time and she said I could borrow her camera. Then, when I called her today, she regretfully informed me that she had borrowed the camera from someone else and that this someone had already promised the camera to another person. Since class starts on Monday, she understood my anxiety and offered to call another photo friend of hers who might let me rent the camera. Relieved, I took her offer and we chatted a bit, when I told her that I actually had another friend (from my DES 16) class who might have a camera I could use, though I had doubts as he took the class a whole year ago. Randomly, Nong asked me what his name was. Surprised, I told her and was shocked. She'd borrowed the camera from him!

It worked out great in my favor, so now I only need to worry about the other materials I need for this surprisingly expensive course.

... Now that I think about it, it's pretty sad that this has been the most dramatic point in life recently. T_T

EDIT: T_T
animeartistjo: (kirara blinking)
I've been back into the Clex fandom lately, after a brief, satisfying foray in Ocean's 11, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Angel, Jeeves & Wooster, and Heroes, and I've come up with a question.

If Superman's eye-lasers set things on fire, why are they red? The hottest flames in a fire are blue, and I think the most intense waves are the ultraviolet ones too.

On a work related note, the MacDonald's I work at recently has added the Iced Coffees to its menu. Did you guys know that every pot of coffee that goes into it was brewed using twice as much coffee grounds as the regular hot coffee? And for the Sweet Tea, the ratio of sugar to water in it is one pound for every gallon?

On a school related note, I totally pwned a charcoal self-portrait 18 by 25. It was one of the best in the class, in my not so humble opinion, and my exercise in draped clothe turned out more realistic and softer than I'd thought! Major win.

Then I find out my final project is an approximately 3 ft by 6 ft piece.

I want to do a combination of a portrait and landscape. Hopefully, I can get my roommate and/or her boyfriend to let me draw them while they're studying or something and then add an interesting background when they're not available. Problem is, the only paper that comes in that size is the smoother, Linux drawing paper and I plan to use black, soft pastels. I've been using them only on charcoal paper up until now, so I'm going to have to experiment and adjust myself to applying it to the different paper. XP

On a whining note, I WANT TO SEE THE DARK KNIGHT!!! My sister gets to lay around grandma's house all day, baking peach tarts and watching movies with my aunt at night while I'm pulling long hours in the lab or the studio. She never even went through the trials of a pounding out a proper personal statement for college apps, that brat! *mutter mutter*

... Yes, yes, it's time for me to break out the chocolate.

Look, Ma!

No fingerprints!

Seriously, I have rubbed off the whorls on my fingertips. It happened sometime during my 5 hour art class today, when we continued out charcoal studies and I spent the entire five hours using white conte crayon and black soft pastels to bring out the highlights and shadows of draped cloth. I washed my hands a grand total of seven times to clean off the black dust so that I could rub in the white without darkening it too much.

Also, I am jealous. [livejournal.com profile] snahjerblah gets to see The Dark Knight at midnight tonight. My DES 16 TA got to see it in IMAX at an insane three o'clock in the morning.

On another note, I won a consolation prize in a Gaia art contest! :whee: Got an Assassin's Guise, worth about 17k or so gold. Better than nothing, since I only submitted two pencil pieces that only took me 15 minutes or so to draw. XD

This weekend, my favorite ART 2 assignment yet: self portrait! Except I have to use the aforementioned materials, which are pure evil to keep clean around and the only places with a mirror outside the art rooms are bathrooms.

... Oh wait! The Mexican restaurant across the street has mirrors on its walls! If I buy something, maybe they won't mind me using it... Hmmmm....
